Four Common Questions and Answers About a Resume

Below are common questions and answers pertaining to a resume:

Q: Should I include references on my resume?

A: If you are new to the job market and have “space” to fill on your resume, then we encourage you include two references with name, address and phone number. However, if you have prior work experience and don’t have much “space” to work with, we recommend that you simple write, “References available upon request.”

Q: Should I include personal information such as gender, height, weight, etc…?

A: You should not include personal information unless you are applying for a job position where your personal information is necessary or will increase the likelihood of being hired (e.g. model, athlete and actor).

Q: I have extensive work experience and my resume will be longer than one page – is it ok if my resume is longer than one page?

A: The information on your resume should be relevant to the job position you are applying for. If you are unable to keep your resume within one page, then only extend your resume to two pages so that you may include extremely important and relevant information that will increase the likelihood of being hired.

Q: Is it better to physically mail my resume or email a soft copy?

A: You should deliver your resume based on how your prospective employer prefers to receive it.
